Liverpool Tallest Tower Approved
Liverpool‘s position as Sydney’s third-largest CBD is a step closer as Fender Katsalidis‘ design for the city’s tallest commercial tower and its surrounding redevelopment gets the green light.
A visionary project for the area developed by Macky Corp, Liverpool Quarter will have a 23-storey curved tower which will be a focal point of the new Liverpool gateway.
At the corner of Scott and Bigge streets, the mixed-use project will have 25,000 square metres of office space, 1500 square metres of co-working, 640 square metres of retail including a refurbished 1888 Hotel.
“Liverpool Quarter is a landmark project that’ll transform the area,” Fender Katsalidis director MarkCurzon said. “The building will act as a regional marker welcoming arrivals into the city while creating a new civic precinct celebrating its heritage.”
Complementing natural and built environments, the design draws on the existing aesthetic of the area, including Liverpool’s brick buildings, green corridors and riverbanks.
The project includes refurbishing the existing three-storey heritage New Commercial Hotel and the construction of a two-storey building, The Stables. “The Stables has been designed to reflect the current heritage streetscape in terms of scale and materials.”
The design features breathing space between the existing hotel and the new buildings and 1200 square metres of open space will be the heart of the precinct, connecting to the city.
The project is set to cater to the area’s growing commercial demands, particularly with the coming Western Sydney Airport, and the location connects to the Sydney CBD via the Liverpool train station.
“What drew us to Liverpool was the unprecedented infrastructure investment,” Macky Corp director MichaelHercus said. “People in Liverpool and the South-West are tired of travelling great distances to work. They want to experience good-quality food, beer and wine in a clean and safe environment. Liverpool Quarter will be a place for people in Liverpool and the South-West to be proud of.”
Construction is due to start later this year and be done by late 2021.
